The Caribbean, as it was meant to be

There's a version of the Caribbean that exists in postcards.

And then there's the version you find in the BVIs.

No resort bracelets. No poolside playlists. No itinerary beyond "follow the wind and see where it takes us."

Just 60+ islands scattered across impossibly blue water, most of them uninhabited, all of them beautiful.

This is sailing at its purest. The British Virgin Islands were made for this - protected bays, steady trade winds, and anchorages so perfect you'll wonder why anyone bothers with hotels.

We're talking barefoot luxury. The kind where your biggest decision is whether to jump off the bow or the stern.

What eight days looks like

Norman Island: Pirate caves and floating bars Snorkel through sea caves where pirates allegedly hid treasure (Robert Louis Stevenson thought so too). Sunlight filters through underwater openings. Tropical fish dart between ancient rocks. You'll feel like you've discovered something secret - even though you're surrounded by turquoise perfection.

Afternoon drinks at the floating Willy T bar. Reggae music. Cold Painkillers. New friends made over rum.

The Baths: Boulders the size of houses Virgin Gorda's iconic granite formations create a natural maze of grottos and tide pools. Scramble through. Swim in hidden pockets of crystal water. Emerge at Devil's Bay feeling like you've just walked through a postcard.

Yes, it's famous. Yes, it's worth it.

Jost Van Dyke: The birthplace of the Painkiller White Bay. Soft sand. The Soggy Dollar Bar, where the world's best rum cocktail was invented.

Spend the afternoon playing beach volleyball, swimming, dancing to whatever's playing. Stay for the sunset. Stay longer for the stars.

This is the island where "one more drink" turns into "let's stay forever."

Anegada: The island time forgot Flat. Remote. Quiet.

While the other BVIs are volcanic and hilly, Anegada is a coral atoll barely rising above sea level. The beaches stretch endlessly. The reefs are pristine. The lobster - caught that morning - is the best you'll ever taste.

Rent bikes. Find flamingo ponds. Claim a deserted beach. Let the world shrink to just sand, sea, and sky.

Cooper Island: 280 rums and a view Sail to Cooper Island and hike up to the eco-resort for sunset. The view alone is worth the climb. The rum selection (280+ bottles from across the Caribbean) makes it unforgettable.

Watch the sky turn pink, then orange, then purple while you sample flights and swap stories with fellow sailors.

This is how you end a week in paradise.

What makes it different

Most things included Private chef. All onboard meals and drinks (yes, including alcohol). Skipper who knows every hidden cove. Host who handles everything so you don't have to.

Your only job? Show up. We'll take care of the rest.

Small groups, real connection Max 10 guests per yacht. Everyone's here for the same reason - to unplug, slow down, and remember what it feels like to have nowhere you need to be.

By day two, it feels less like a group trip, more like old friends reuniting.

The right kind of easy Protected waters mean smooth sailing. Islands are close - you're never more than a few hours from the next anchorage. The water is warm, calm, and so clear you can see the sandy bottom 40 feet down.

This is the Caribbean without the learning curve.

Who this is for

You don't need sailing experience.

You don't need to be particularly adventurous.

You just need to be ready to slow down. To trade your alarm clock for sunrise. To spend entire afternoons doing absolutely nothing and feel completely satisfied.

This is for people who want the Caribbean without the resort crowds. Who value real moments over perfect Instagram shots (though you'll get plenty of those too). Who understand that sometimes the best plan is no plan at all.

When: January - March 2026 (prime BVI season) Duration: 8 days / 7 nights Pricing: From £3,50pp, deposits from £100pp

The BVIs have a way of changing people.

Not dramatically. Just... softer. Slower. Less stressed about things that don't actually matter.

You come back remembering what it's like to wake up without an alarm. To make decisions based on wind direction rather than your calendar. To spend an entire afternoon doing nothing and feel completely content.

That's the real magic of barefoot freedom.
